What if debt collectors come to my home?

If you are having problems with debt, you may be worried that debt collectors will come to your home to try to collect money from you. You may get letters or phone calls which tell you that a debt collector could call at your home. Don’t worry. A collection agency has no greater powers than the creditor. They are not bailiffs and have no rights to come into your home. It is very unlikely a debt collector will actually visit you for this reason.

My Money Steps will help you deal with debt collection agencies and tell you what your options are for sorting out your debts. Start My Money Steps.

If you need urgent advice because a bailiff or sheriff officer has said they will visit you, phone National Debtline on 0808 800 4000.
